CHIROPRACTIC

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic care is most known for its ability to relieve back and neck pain (1). It is also highly effective in its prevention.

The bony spine is a mechanical marvel. It supports the skeleton, acts as an attachment for many muscles, and protects the spinal cord. At the same time, it allows for incredible flexibility. Between each spinal bone, called vertebrae, are small openings through which nerves pass, providing a connection between the spinal cord and the rest of the body. The spinal cord is made up of many long nerve fibres carrying electrochemical messages like a living telephone cable. Vertebral misalignment can disturb the nerves and cause subtle changes in their communications, affecting the way the body fights infection, deals with stress and disease, and
could impair its ability to recover from injury. Sometimes misalignments cause pain, numbness, tingling or headache. Symptoms vary.

The chiropractor’s job is to locate and correct these misalignments, optimizing the body’s ability to heal itself.

Chiropractic technique can differ between practitioners. Having multiple techniques at its disposal permits the profession to meet the needs of a variety of body types and conditions. Everybody is different. Most treatment styles are hands-on; some include the use of a special
table, pelvic blocks, or an instrument such as the Activator® which delivers a precise, adjustable thrust to correct misalignments identified by your chiropractor. There are many options available. After history and examination, a treatment plan is presented and doctor and patient work together to reach the patient’s personal health goals. Occasionally, patients may be referred to other health care professionals for consult and treatment.

Government studies from all over the world show chiropractic to be a safe treatment for back pain, neck pain, and certain types of headache including migraine.
